The first concentration camp wasn't Bergen-Belsen, it was Dachau (1933). Some of the early residents were alcoholics, confidence men, Polish Catholic priests, beggers, Gypsies, tramps, thieves, pimps, and adult Jewish men sentenced to more than a months confinement. The Nazis made them work, unless they had an artificial limb, or wore eyeglasses, or had a bad medical history, those were killed. Early camps like Dachau, Buchenwald, Mauthausen, and Sachsenhausen are better known than the ones in eastern Europe, maybe because more people survived those camps and could talk about them.

Whoever heard of Soroca or Bogdanovka?
