You know, in general I agree the media is sloppy & sensationalistic, but I think in regard to this specific topic there was enough ambiguity for both statements to be true: that scientists would be pleased, and disappointed. In addition, we are in the age of instant information so we don't give the journalists time to digest it anyway. (Altho who knows how many would if they could).

I like the NYT. I'm probably centrist or slightly left of center. I thought that was good reporting. But thats to be expected because their science reporting is extraordinarily good.
