If someone could get the attention of the nation and explain one thing, and one thing only, the whole debt situation would be over. There is one really and simple way to pay off the national debt, and it will get done quicker than any other way currently availabe. Just don't borrow any more money. In 30 years, the debt will be gone. If someone with 200k in debts for house and car etc... acted like people have tended to do towards the national debt, most of this country would be running around like mad because if they spent every last dime on debts it would take them 10 years to pay it off. The consumer, alas, has found the solution to paying off debts that are much bigger than income (only about 2.5 X gment income and 5/8 of GDP for gment). Just keep paying and don't borrow anymore.
