OK, now this will get good. The many of the major miners(AU ABX+HM NEM) say "gold is going higher". Some of the Bankers are in the lower & some in the higher camsp, while the US is also split on value of the $. At least another fun run.

"If gold was doing something on its own merit, then I could remain bullish. But when it is being driven purely by
currencies…then it is hard for me to be in anything but profit taking mode."

This is idiotic statement and misleading on purpose.

Gold is being by

1.Mining companies taking off hedges;

2. Threat of Labor Strikes and mine shut downs due to various other multiple cause like;

3 Energy Crisis. higher production costs.

4. Rapid Mine Depletions due to improved mining technologies

5 World Political Unrest and threat of War;

6. Money being called in on loans and nothing there to pay with.............

7. Overvaluation of the US Dollar and massive real estate debt overhang.

8. Credit Card Mania of 1999-2000 people racking up charges for all kinds of cool electronic gizmos.

9. Internet Bubble burst.

should we go on......

M.

"One of the things that does stand out of this $7/$8 move that we've seen in the last couple of days, it shows the market what will happen if the US dollar does sustainably weaken, is that gold will definitely benefit from it."

So he is not making a call on gold, he is making a call on the dollar -- and as we all know, nothing can go wrong with the dollar, unless of course the US fails to import a billion dollars per day to finance the current account deficit -- and that is impossible... eh, well, it has not happened yet. When the US stock market was going up, the CA was a snap to finance, but not now, and if currency traders smell blood, watch out. In that event, gold spikes and holds. This guy is just saying you cannot predict that kind of move in the dollar.
