Well tell your mother you're in luck. I couldn't find any good Italian jokes with several search engines.

Forever here, hot meatball sandwiches with tomato sauce were called hot deagos. All the restaurants had them, no one ever took offense and there are plenty of Italians here.

One year a guy from New York (a lawyer) was eating at a restaurant in St. Paul and went ballistic. Made it a cause. Raised such a stink the city council of St. Paul actually passed an ordinance banning the use of the phrase. Most restaurants around the state quietly changed their menus.

People still order hot deagos but now the get hot meatball sandwiches with tomato sauce.
