OT:i disagree Doug these people were quite simply morally superior beings,it comes from an inner rule.A power of knowing right versus wrong. That which we call conscience in a person you has developed strong inner self will have rule that overwhelm the easy way behavoir. In short, they overcome nature, and become Free. This is what Free Will is all about.
If you can not believe in this.
You are left in believing in absolutely nothing.Including belief in ANY HIGHER power, belief in God,period. You are left with absolutely nada, nada, nada, nada.
These people were interviewed are the ones that weren't killed for what they did,and thus available.
In many instances they faced extreme danger of losing their life.
There was NO reward, but only risk--they were not the type of people who said IF i do this,i will go to heaven.
It was something ruling from within---their very being.
So what allow a person to get this way,to be taught they are free and can rule themselves via an inner strength.
For me,i call this strength a the manifestation of God within --be that God that be conceived by Buddhist,Jews,Christians,White Voodoo,or simply The High Spirit of Native Americans---you get the idea--enough blathering from me.PaxMax
P.S. i have personally observed greatness from many anonymous individuals my entire life,so much so,that i have found,by experience the views of Behavoirist are extremely valid when applied to Ants, but falls apart when looking at Humanity, minutely,on an individual basis.

OT:if i wrote "what else could we do?" it was my major mistake.
It is an inner rule, their INNER rule, their inner decision--to do otherwise would be to BETRAY themselves--this is why i stress he found they all had a STRONG SENSE OF SELF.Therefore,to not do the right thing was to BETRAY their very souls, their very essence.
