Tim, and what I was trying to point out is that the behavior/actions of the two deputies could lead to new laws being passed that restrict a person from shooting a bear on his own property.

1- If that was how it happened it would be unjust and practically bad if it excluded if it exluded self defense. If this was the reason it could explain why such laws exist but it would not deal with the point that they are unjust.

Tim, I never said that all laws are just to all people. Many times in the process of interpreting a law and meeting the requirements of several groups can make that law unworkable or dangerous, and may require that the law be amended. I suspect the one you mention may be one of them. But the law usually turns bad because there are too many interpretations placed on it.

2 - That isn't how the law came to be. The person who shot the grizzly got in trouble because grizzlies are a threatened species under the endangered species act.

And the grizzly is on the endangered species list because of indiscriminate hunting....in other words we are paying for the sometimes questionable behavior of our ancestors. An example of how the degrading of our ecological and environmental systems can have a negative impact in the future.

On the other hand there is a provision for self defense in the ESA so it might be more the fault of a bad court decision then bad law (not the I think the ESA is an example of a good law).

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a bad court call/bad interpretation like I said above......who said all judges are competent enough to sit on the bench.
