Tony,

re: Funny thing is that the OEMs know full well what IPC is, but they aren't buying the AMD MP platform either.

The OEM's have a huge investment in the status quo. Intel is good to them, Intel provides the platform for their profits, probably 85% +/- of their unit sales, a good percentage of their advertising dollars, and the capacity to grow. To the OEM's, Intel is the PC business. AMD is a convenient leverage to sort of keep Intel honest.

Intel creates the playing field, AMD adapts.

John

Tony, High sned server space has enormous inertia and can take 2 years to qualify and adopt a new part. Even the new Intel parts will take a while to get qualled.
Now the AMD MP plaatform is gaining converts in the small dense 1R and 2R server packs and they are very price conscious. They also are good engineers and will be able to make a good thermal design. So we should look for many capable servers based on the AMD MP plaatform to appear and grow in number from now on.

As soon as the top tier people see many small players making these severs, all of a suddent they will make them as well.
I an not so naive to think they are unaware of them and are not evaluating them. The cost to evaluate is trivial compared to the risk of being blindsided.
