Pete, <<<The Xeon large cache CPU ASP is about $1000 somewhere around 600 to 700MHz. Small cache Xeon CPUs make up the bulk at an ASP of $300 of 1.35 million units mostly in 1 to 2 ways or about 900K servers. Thus, total units of 1.5 million Xeons have an ASP of $370 for a total of $555 million. Most Intel CPUs in servers though are Coppermines in 2.5 million 1 to 2 way servers for 3 million units at an ASP of $150 or a total of $450 million. The total Intel CPUs in servers of about $1.0 billion.>>>

If we take your numbers to its logical conclusion:

Quarterly Annual
ASP Units REVS Units REVS

Large Cache Xeon $1000 150K $150M 600K $ 600M
Small Cache Xeon $ 300 1350K $405M 5400K $1620M
Coppermines $ 150 3000K $450M 12000K $1800M

Total $ 223 4500K $1005M 18000K $4020M

Therefore:

The total annual Intel CPUs in servers is about $4.0 billion.

According to your often stated opinion that the CPU has .2 to 2% value of the server, the Intel server market is worth between a lower bound of $2 Trillion and an upper bound of $200 Billion.

The good news is that if we accept your WAG, the global recession is over.

or

The bad news is that you have to adjust your numbers, admit to some gross errors in your estimates. That your WAG is just that - a WAG. It could have margins of error (any way you look at it) of between 500 to 5000%.
