"t has been estimated that there are now 30 million missing women from chinese society"

First of all, based on what I've read, I think that number is grossly exaggerated....I'd like to see the source of that. I do believe there is some infanticide taking place in the rural areas of China and probably some abortions based on gender identification in the womb. I may be wrong, but I don't think the Chinese government allows store front ultra sound businesses to exist, much less flourish. While there, I did perceive what I thought were more little boys than girls on the streets and playgrounds; they were most often in the company of grandparents since both parents usually work, but that was not the case in the schools we visited which seemed to be evenly divided. The official Chinese policy for birth control is to fine a couple who have more than one child.....for a more well off couple this is no problem, but it certainly affects the very poor. BTW, I have never seen children doted over as much as I did there..... Parental and grandparental pride just gushed from them....
