Kerry has Lincoln'esque looks and don't deny it.
I still maintain that Bush won because he looked cooler on TV than Gore. He had the confident frat leader thing down nicely. Then he fooled us into thinking there was substance beneath the facade. Kerry would blow him away. He's got a super brain to go with the looks and height. He's much more macho than Bush. And don't say looks and machismo don't matter. Clinton and Reagan both got in partially because of that. Especially Reagan. Bush Sr. beat Dukakis on the machismo issue. Remember the tank footage of Dukakis? That lost him the election. He looks like an elf. That is also why Edwards is a rising star. And why the GOP was afraid of Grey Davis so attacked him so firecely (and are still doing so). Not that they're male models but they're the best looking out there along with Kerry. Symbolically appropriate faces you might say. Gephardt won't make it ebcause of the red hair and freckles. Lieberman is just a VP choice. Clinton still has that Elvis thing going for him. Mothers have to forgive him. Gore is okay looking but there was something a little sweaty and rotund about him when he was pressured.

Like it or not these things decide elections for many under-educated people. Bush appeared likeably and handsome but now that we've seen his stiff performances he'll have a hard time ever recovering. Gore was accused of being stiff but Bush turned out to be the stiffest of all, just no passion there and no comfort in formal situations. He reads speeches but doesn't seem to really care or know what he's talking about. You can just see Karen Hughes feeding him every word behind the scenes like a TV news producer feeding the anchor man. But Bush is no network anchor man either. He's clearly not in command of the issues. He strains to be convincing and sometimes looks scared and uneasy. Clearly in over his head. Especially when he's overseas. On the ranch he looks better. Where he belongs.
