I just read a Merrill Lynch research article on the optical components market.

There were 4 key variables discussed in the article:

1. The magnitude of the excess inventory of optical components in $billions;

2. The rate at which the optical inventory becomes obsolete in months;

3. The current percentage of optical components in systems and the estimated growth of this percentage; and

4. The growth rate of optical systems.

From these variables and a forecast of JDSU's market share, ML creates scenarios based on a sensitivity analysis of obsolescent rates and rates of growth of the percentage of optical components in systems.

Hi MJ 2000,

I'm really new to this sector ,so my opinions are of little value.

As an owner of 2 dealerships,I greatly value the significant savings that B2B internet/enterprise software offer.

Many do not know it but General Motors has been very committed to doing business with their 8000 dealers over the internet. Their field traveling force has generally been eliminated and un-empowered.The savings are incredible and this is the primary justification.

I believe GE has found similar savings also.So from my perspective,their is a huge multi tiered group of smaller businesses that probably are not aware of the potential savings that would be available.

LE's vision of small prices and quick implementation for the vast number of small businesses is very futuristic and right on. So far I see big companies that have IT departments making the shift with good rewards. If Orcl can enable small firms to benefit with standardized software - then market share will come their way and they will prosper.

I see Orcl as the leader in achieving market share with smaller businesses - and I think that market is huge.There are a small number of dealers that use CRM and it has great advantages - however once again it is predominantly implemented in the larger (publicly owned dealer groups i.e. autonation , group one etc.).

Oracle has a great leader with a powerful vision - that is a great start. My knowledge is very limited regarding Sebl and it wouldn't be appropriate for me to judge.
