Jim, One major reason to support AMD is AMD keeps prices down. Let Intel defeat AMD and CPUs will rise inexorable back to the $1000 level of yesteryear.

Actually medium term investors in this game will remember that the PII-300 was introduced at an insane price of $1800 when it was first launched!

Bill,

Re: "It now looks like AMD is here to stay."

If AMD continually runs in the "red", they might be able to withstand
the INTC "heat". Has AMD "re-purchased" their headquarters ?? Can AMD
start "re-leasing" their Fabs ?? How low can they go ?? <ggg>

Make It So,

Many OEMs know this and give AMD enough share to help balk this eventuality.
It now looks like AMD is here to stay.

Those days might be over, at least for quite a while. I don't think you'll see the big OEMs that helped AMD in the past throw them much their way in the near future. Compaq is in "leverage everything possible with Intel technology" mode since their commitment to Itanium and their hurting financial situation. I suspect HP will go the same way. Gateway is in a world of hurt and Dell is the only one that can feel at all good about their business, so they won't break up a winning combination. Like Milan said, the PC and server industries are in a period of consolidation, not expansion. That can't help AMD.
