You're right about Texas. I've been all over the state and except for Austin and surroundings and remote Big Bend it's mainly a flat barren seemingly endless dreary place. Except for Austin and few other oases not much culture or education either. Chick-fried steaks and beer is the staple. Men are men and women are women the old-fashioned way (despite Anne Richards who could cuss like a saloon keeper). Christian conservatism is big and always has been. I've never seen such huge churches. Black people and Mexicans know their places and don't complain much. And Big Oil is king and always wins. So no wonder they may not care about corrupt inside deals and the environment. And no wonder they expect a big payoff for their large long-term investment in GW. Arguing against that down there or talking to them about things like global warming is pretty fruitless. Texans are "real people" and very warm and genuine and rugged most of them, but they live in a world of their own. One of the least progressive places around. We might say they're living in the the past but to them the past is their present as not much has changed down there. Maybe it never will. Nevertheless I like Texas, especially many of the people, but there is a definite dark side to it in the hearts of some, eepecially some of the very rich men down there. They could basically give a sh*t about what we think, if you know what I mean. That's why I know the energy crisis was rigged to help GW and gouge the rest of us (a good thing down there). And it would not surprise me at all if JFK was set up in Texas by Texans, knowing LBJ would then take the reins and keep the war and oil machines pumping, which he did. Probably no accident what happened there considering a fellow Texas was Vice President and considering how much they distrust Yankees. Texas also spawned the greatest abuses of the S+L debacle. And of course they are famous for their executions, even of mentally retarded people, blacks mostly. So that's their dark side though to them it's not so wrong. Which is why they say "don't mess with Texas". Problem is, when they have power, Texas messes with the rest of us, and have no qualms about breaking federal laws in the process. To them it's free enterprise at work. To us it's thievery and corruption.

You really show how little you know, Chicken Crap

PS....why did you name yourself chicken crap?....was TLC handing you your hat too often or what?

Texas has more variety than you could ever imagine. Austin is just a small piece of it, but I am not surprised you like it.....
