When it became clear that they were going to lose, the die-hard Nazis all ran away as fast as their fat little legs would take them, otherwise they were shot or made to stand trial. A lot of them were shot, mostly by the Russians, who had very good cause to be very, very pissed off. The Nazis killed about 12 million Russians, mostly civilians.

Over the years, thousands were made to stand trial, many convicted, some executed.
