Funny. I read a long biographical article on Bush once and interviewing his closest friends not one could remember any instance when he'd been "spiritual". But he did confer with Billy Graham and I suppose AA is not unlike a religious conversion. My suspicion is rather than he knows the religious right is part of his base and that he has to at least pretend to be like one of them to be competitive in key battleground states. Carter I believed when he talked about religion. Also Lieberman. But other recent presidents, no. Praying for their careers maybe.
