Re <<Most PC boards get designed in Taiwan. Ten years ago, there was only minimal consideration given to thermal and reliability. It's a little better now, but the process is still rather uncontrolled. We all know that the priority in Taiwan is low cost and fast design time.>>

This has nothing to do with PC board designed. Thermal design is done by tier one OEM's and NOT by some Taiwanese manufacturer. Dell, Gateway, Compaq etc, have their own thermal labs where they do the thermal design.

Re <<This is just to point out that while your company may use Pd_max as the design criteria, it isn't going to be that way everywhere. >>

I am certain that Compaq, Dell and Gateway design around the max power. Joe shmo's screw driver shop might be different.

Re <<Which means that you were getting a bit carried away.. And I don't think wannabmw appreciated it. >>

I was not getting carried away, just firmly stating what I know to be true. But yeh I don't think BMW liked it.

This will be my last post on this topic as I am sure the thread is sick of it.
