KYO has a majority stake in AVX, but they target slightly different markets. AVX competes with VSH and KEM for ceramic & tantalum capacitors- though VSH keeps expanding their product line into specialized niches.

All three were suspected for future trouble, as current contracts ran out and were replaced with sales at lower margins. Might be in the stock price already.

I wonder at what point the holdings in AVX would exceed KYO's market cap.

Martin J. Whitman (Third Avenue Value fund) owns better than 4% of AVX and is a pretty savy player.
