Go review Q3/Q4 of 1999. Intel took the cheap and easy route to .18 (no copper) and was ahead of AMD for 6 months. Then AMD launched a first class .18 process and doubled its market share over the next 1 1/2 years.

Remember how confident you were that coppermine would spell the end of AMD? Go back and look at your old posts from those months.

Same thing this semi cycle. Intel launches a cheap and easy .13, AMD comes along 6 months later with SOI on .13 and thrashes Intel for a year and a half. Benchmarks from the SOI samples should start leaking early next quarter.

Intel will probably get their 6 months to shine in the fall of 2003.
