You guys (you and AS) both sound like you are afraid of religion. Why does it scare you so? If one has a free will and can think for him/her self there is nothing religion can do to hurt you. They have no "contolling legal authority" as you dems like to say. On the other hand there is plenty they can do to help for those who seek it out.

Try to stop looking at religion as the enemy just because they have values that do not correspond with your lack of values. Don't go to church (I don't), but don't keep insulting the institution. If there is a God (there is imo) he might get mad.

Kowtowing of politicians to the church (and politicians having to pretend they're religious) has gone too far. It's also the most conservative religious groups that are getting the attention because they're most feared as voter blocks. Believe it or not, there is just as big a group who are liberal-moderate Christians and don't agree with fundamentalist principles, especially when they negate scientific fact or try to regress and defeat womens rights, birth control, etc. I am from a big strong Christian family. Most of us are quite liberal on social issues, except for my fundamentalist cousins who think the biggest threat to mankind are the Mormons. I try to stay away from them as much as possible. They're nice people (too nice sometimes) but nutty in their views. Always want to sing hymns and hold hands. But if you bring up Mormons they want to fight to the death. gg Frankly I think they're a lot like Mormons. I don't see the big diff.
