Thanks. Interesting points. One of the few times I wish I had working TV reception so I could see it.

Certainly there is a strong perception here that Israel is a small country surrounded and beseiged by rabid Arab fundamentalists. Israel is obviously a lot stronger than the Palestinians, but if you throw in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and the countries which like to promote terror against any US allies, they clearly have something legitimate to worry about.

As to whether there is equal culpability for the violence, I was interested to see that there was strong opposition (reported as such, at least) on the part of most Jews to the attack by settlers on Palestinians. However, I personally and repulsed by the sight of Palestinians dancing in the streets and celebrating when one of their suicide bombers has gone to Heaven by slaughtering or maiming hundreds of Jews. And fathers publicly wishing for their sons to die in the same glorious way. This sort of fanaticism truly scares me, and I'm 10,000 miles away from it. If I were living in Jerusalem, and it were my people they were dancing and cheering about killing, well, how can we expect the average Israeli to think they can truly make peace with that sort of people?
