Thanks for the reply. It does give me things to think about. With 70% of the shares in VEBA hands, I guess it is majority owned by a foreign company. And probably that in itself makes it foreign owned. I was looking at it as having a US operation that would not be allowed to be shutdown and some sort of intervention would occur to keep the US sites operational. not that the US would do what Venezuela did years ago, with the oil fields by nationalizing it, but I still think having a US producer of wafers is a critical resource.

On the subject of profit margins, much like that of the DRAM producers, there comes a time when the "abused" company has to turn the tables on their customers and tell them that if prices do not rise to respectable levels, everyone will get hurt. I will grant you this, there is a great deal of pressure being placed on putting MEMC out of business by foreigners, much like that of the other indistries that were targeted in the past. however, it does amaze me that Wacker did not step in yet.
