Addendum: Lest anyone think I am defending the sentiment - or the humor- I'm not. I just thought that Ish was being accused of serious intent that, knowing Ish fairly well, I know was an inaccurate interpretation of his post.

Thanks for, as usual, the balanced and rational post.

I'm frankly amused, more than otherwise, by all the uproar about a post which Ish obviously intended to be humerous, as you point out. I admit I didn't find it funny myself, but that doesn't mean it was meant seriously. It may even have been in bad taste, but since when was good taste a requirement for not getting blasted on SI?

But as usual, you hit the nail on the head.

it's so easy to misread the meanings- especially when you are looking for negativity from people with whom you already think you disagree

I've never gotten to know Ish although his name is ubiquitous, but it was clear to me that he was joking as was Laz, who posts here, too. The joke may have been in poor taste, but it was still a joke. There's too much on SI that's downright vile for me to get exercised over a joke.

It was frustrating (which I now know is exactly what he meant it to be)

Yes, that's exactly what he meant it to be. Different threads have different contexts. Seems to me that stuff said on one is best left there and not introduced onto another. And personalities, too. Some posters who seem like jerks on one thread can be quite nice when you get to know them in another environment.

I just read through the Ish posts, and Laz's reply. Jokes. Male-style jokes. Even jokes about males, in a way.

To anyone who knows Ish and Laz.
