Appearance has nothing to do with it. The embryo, at least once implanted, becomes the fetus, the fetus becomes the delivered child. The "program" is already there, it is only a matter of executing it, with the support of proper nutrients and oxygenated blood. However, once fertilized, the program is, in fact, executing, it just takes a long time. If we were to take the finished biological product as the human being, then only a fully formed adult of, perhaps, 21 would be eligible for immunity from arbitrary termination. Now, based upon the rate at which embryos fail to emplant, I can see raising questions about their use in stem cell research. However, in consideration of the respect we afford human life, I think that a slower, more deliberative course is best. It is likely that stem cells will be extracted elsewhere in the long run, thus avoiding the problem....... Roe v. Wade is a bad decision, since the text of the Constitution makes clear that the right to privacy is not absolute, but may be qualified by both courts and legislature. It is likely to go, at which point, the matter will become a state issue. As for the rest, well, our agendas are different.......
