You got it, gotta be what's happening. A guy over on the Motley Fool AMD thread posted a list of reasons why AMD has no reason to worry. Courtesy of RenderFool. Maybe our locals can use some of these:

Oh my this guy is a hoot...

IBM is no biggy... we got the world.

Nah, they just invented the PC and still own a significant chunk of the business and server market... sing after me "we are the world... we are the children..."

Gateway is no biggy... who needs Europe?

Weren't something like two World Wars fought over that question???

Flash is not important... CPUs are.

So then why does AMD continue to make flash???

Duron is not where the money is... Athlon is.

That much is true... but market penetration at all levels is important... just ask Intel when AMD started picking up significant low-end share with the K6-2...

Desktop Athlon is not important... mobile Athlon is.

With the desktop Athlon rapidly becoming a value chip, I can see why some would want to believe that... Unfortunately the currently released mobile Athlon's don't stack up so well against the Tualatin...

X-box is not important... systems are.

I agree systems are very important... refer to this later...

This year's performance is not important, next year is.

I'd say all performance is important... and AMD's performance next year may not be as stellar as this individual believes.

HyperTransport is not important...

Translation, "We didn't want to set the new I/O standard anyway because everyone would want it and that would be work work work!" Further translation "*sniffle* I'm taking my ball and going home..."

Chipsets are not important...

*chortle* *guffaw* What happened to "systems" are important???

Honestly, if AMD doesn't flawlessly execute on their 0.13 micron transition, they're going to drop out of the mainstream of PC processors all together as Intel's speed advantage is going to be too much to handle. I can see AMD becoming another Apple with a core group of die hards who would "rather use their AMD-box as a paperwieght than compute on an Intel processor," but that's about it... There's plenty of money to be made in that type of market, but I honestly don't think that's where AMD wants to be...

Tony, Re: "Sour grapes"

That, in a nutshell, is where a lot of AMD investors are finding themselves right now. That, and denial.

P.S. "The stock is not important, but AMD is?" I particularly like this one. ;-)
