DUBYA IN TEXAS

By BRIAN BLOMQUIST

August 14, 2001 -- President Bush mixed work and play on Vacation Day 10, golfing with pals and threatening to veto any bill that tries to short-circuit his plan for limited federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research.
"Any piece of legislation that undermines what I think is right will be vetoed," Bush vowed at a country-club golf course near his ranch in Crawford, Tex.

Bush kidded with reporters, asking on the first tee: "Anybody see a flaw in my swing?"

After golf, Bush changed from khakis into Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots to sign a farm aid bill at his ranch with 50 farmers and their families sitting on haystacks behind him.

Asked if he missed Washington, Bush said, "I like Washington a lot, but I also like it here," and he revealed, "I've gotten on a video conference with some of my staff (in DC) and it works great."
