Nobody was surprised that Kyle Rote, Jr. won the Superstars competition. I certainly wasn't. He had good football genes and was the best football player in the state of Texas before he took up soccer.

And yes, I've played all the sports, including coin flip.

I have to admit, I'm startled at that. My money would have been on the swimmer.

Football's a lot more professional now than it was (mainly becasue the pay for the world's best is up in the millions, although still lagging baseball), but the players aren't known for overall fitness or ability... perhaps the most skilled and famous are known for their decadence - George Best, Diego Maradona, and (most recently here, on a slightly lesser scale) Paul Gascoigne...

Here's an old-school quote, from when there was a real class divide between rugby and association football:
Football is a game for gentlemen, played by thugs. Rugby is a game for thugs, played by gentlemen.
Meanwhile, US football is like rugby with body armour and commercial breaks... I'm not sure how that fits...
