I mentioned in an earlier post that I was going to be on travel for a couple of weeks.

I also mentioned in an earlier post that virtually any crime that is in the US can be found in Europe.

Individual cases [anecdotal] of crime or violence don't necessarily disprove the generalized statements. For example, you can easily find a murder in Europe as a result of a handgun, but the statement that the muder rate per capita is still less in Europe than it is in the US is still valid.

With regards to sweeping it under the rug. I see lots of news in Europe that never gets printed in the US news [though it is typically available on AP wires]. I can pull articles on the Basque separatists or some racial violence in England. Just because Americans are ignorant of European news doesn't mean that Europe is sweeping it under the rug.
