I would never have guessed that was your point.

I don't think we are obligate to do things we loathe as part of civic duty. You may, I do not.
Pleasure is the main reason for living. (Pleasure that does no harm to others, of course- I know I need to qualify, or the same people who think I am XXX will think I am a sadist)

If civic duty is so unpleasant as to leave me constantly appalled, I do not need to do it.

One of his pet topics is the lefty bias in the media so I recently posted something from the NYT that articulated very well the righty position on an issue as a demonstration of their even-handedness.

They do publish even handed or even an occasionally conservatively biased article or even editorial, but IMO the NYT is a good example of liberal media bias.
