Bilow,

re: It's been how many months since Nvidia demoed these things? That's at least how much of a lead that AMD has on Intel as far as integrated dual channel low cost DDR platforms go.

You have seen what they are up to in their R&D labs? I'm sure a company that is as aggressive as NVDA is happy to settle for ~20% of the market.

John

Carl, Re: "lead that AMD has on Intel as far as integrated dual channel low cost DDR platforms..."

As far as integrated dual channel DDR platforms, maybe, but the jury is still out on whether this chipset will be a low cost. Preliminary projections from xbitlabs said the following.

According to the info we got from one of our sources close to NVIDIA, the company is going to sell Crush 11 chipset also known as nForce 220 for $45-$55 depending on the fact whether Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is supported in the MCP South Bridge. As you remember, Crush 11 will support only 64bit DDR SDRAM memory interface and won’t support Twinbank architecture. As for Crush 12 aka nForce 420, featuring 128bit memory interface with Twinbank architecture support, NVIDIA is going to sell these chipsets at almost twice as high price as Crush 11 equal to $90-$95.

Just for comparison, the i850 is selling for about $45 right now, and VIA plans to price the P4X266 at $25. If nVidia plans to offer their dual channel chip set for >$90, that's going to force mainboard prices close to $200. Not low cost, and not mainstream, either.
