Until last year, I thought I was in (relatively) good shape and could eat just about anything I wanted. I have been thin or average weight for my entire adult life. My diet has always been pretty good, cholesterol within normal range, and blood pressure low. There is no history of heart disease on either side of my family tree.

This time last year, while on our annual Model A trek to the Pacific Northwest, unstable angina entered the picture. Upon my return, I had to undergo a coronary angioplasty procedure. Now, I am more careful.

BTW, we were calling this year's Model A tour the "Heart Patient Special," because, of the four cars in the caravan, three contained heart patients (me, a heart attack survivor, and a heart transplant recipient) and the fourth a career fireman (our "paramedic"). I am not sure he would have been much help, if needed, as he has been in management for at least 20 years. A good mechanic, though, and those are harder to find while on the road than a paramedic.
