Re <<These price moves are rather unprecedented. I wonder what is behind this?>>

Lack of demand? I think there is a lot of inventory out there and the back to school season is turning out to be a bust. AMD probably has decent yield on the 1.4 GHz parts, no one wants them however and AMD wants to get rid of them at any price.

It also could be that OEM's are dumping their inventory in the channels because back to school season, which was supposed to save the PC’s never materialized.

I have been saying this for couple of months now, CPU market is very bad with little hope to get better any time soon. INTC is priced like it is a hyper growth company in an emerging industry! Some how the semi market, as well as the overall tech market continues to soak up bad news like a sponge.

Kap,

It just dropped to $117. These price moves are rather unprecedented. I wonder what is behind this?

2 Ghz P4? $117 for a 1.4 Ghz Athlon puts my mind into a state of cognitive dissonance.
