Hi TSF,

Just a brief note to say thanks a bunch for sharing your insights and experience. Many words of wisdom spoken, so to speak...

Best, Ray :)

TSF, you write very well with your mouth full. What a superb response. Looking at my watch, I think I'll make the necessary time to do it justice tomorrow or over the weekend. If I might just comment on your closer for now, you highlighted several salient points in that last paragraph:

"Which pool do you want sir? We have a choice of several,

[ii]do you have connectivity to these pools or

[iii]do you have a metro carrier in your building that has the interconnections in place to get to your pooling point of choice?

[iv] If you only have one carrier that can deliver your circuit, is he going to be the cheapest market solution?"

Late last year, after months of mulling over the what-ifs and why-we-shouldn'ts, we had a weekend offsite meeting for the purpose of drawing up a strawman model for an exchange. The points you raised above were among the very same ones that we adjourned wondering about. Along with OSS/OAMP/Inventory/Electronic Bonding between carriers; the use of traditional sales agents as a starter strategy (as you also hinted, yesterday); a common control signaling and surveillance protocol similar to an SS/7 between optical nodes (now called control plane) for connection setup and supervision; UNI/GMPLS; and much more. I think we're looking at a brand new overlay that's going to prove to be quite an opportunity here. At least as I see it. More, later.

In the meantime, I thought that you and others here would be interested in the following from www.convergedigest.com, since we're talking bandwidth trading and liquidated damages. Are you familiar with Dorado's products?

Dorado Introduces Broadband Trading & Network Liquidity Software

[ from www.convergedigest.com ]

Dorado Software introduced an automated trading system for
broadband and TDM network assets that reserves, schedules,
delivers and monitors bandwidth connections and services in the
bandwidth trading marketplace. Specifically, Redcell B-Trade
provides a reservation system to translate traded bandwidth
connections with specific counter parties, and at a set rate and
quality to specific network routes. It also provides management
of network resources, including optical switches and counter-
party connections, against scheduled end-to-end connections to be
delivered, ensuring deliverable paths and avoiding schedule
conflicts. Dorado said the software could be used for real-time
delivery of bandwidth connections. doradosoftware.com

provide bandwidth trading software for its exchanges.
