The most usual usage is deviant from the community norm. So what is acceptable in one culture (eating dog in China, say) is deviant in another (ours).

Excellent post, Steven. It would be one Hell of a mixed up world, if disagreement, and opposition to harmful ideas and dangerous people, were to become positions to which shame would attach. The world would be run by pigs.
