Tim, <Their "We will undercut Intel by 20%" (or was it 25%) strategy is what started this price war.>

It's actually 25%. Right now, I think AMD would be happy if they could price their products this high, i.e. no more of a discount than 25%.

<But, like all great tragedies, they are awaiting a deus ex machina waiting in the wings to drop down and lift Jerry to safety.>

They already had one rescue back in 1999 when they were deep in the red. Nothing like that coming anytime soon.

Tim, Re: "like all great tragedies, they are awaiting a deus ex machina waiting in the wings to drop down and lift Jerry to safety."

Some are hoping this involves an nForce chipset and SOI empowered Athlons. I think it would be ironic in this case, because the way things are going, it looks as if the chipset will end up costing more than the processors.

tcmay,

Re: "SOI, SOI, wherefore art thou? ... Maybe someone convinced Jerry
and Ben and Hector that AMD could win a price war because of its
superior--so the Droids tell us--manufacturing and design capabilities."

Looks like SOI and LowK at .13um are in trouble for AMD ... Too many
risks, too few rewards. Hopefully, Jerry will have to face the
"slings and arrows" of a few outraged stock holders. What was the
name of the last guy that gave Jerry "the dickens" at a shareholders
meeting ??

Make It So,
Yousef
