I have personally found it very useful to bookmark certain individuals whose opinions I respect. The peoplemark feature then lets you know if there have been new posts. You then then trace back the subject matter easily by following the post(s) which they are responding to or have in response. Another idea would be to use the Ignore feature on certain (many?) individuals who usually have nothing valuable to contribute.
