Ted - Re:"My point is that so much damage has been done in the past 500 years by mankind, that we can't afford to screw around." Who needs bears? Who needs salmon? Who needs Caribou? Drill more -- Use more !! That's the ticket. And it brings in lots more money for the Bush Boys.

tejek, re: In the last few years, grizzlies and black bears have been going into the small towns of BC and Alaska, foraging for food and terrorizing the residents. The dwindling salmon populations are the cause. Many are being killed by the townspeople or die of malnutrition. I just read an article in the local paper (the Olympian), it said so far this year 18 bears had been killed (by citizens) in Alaska, five were grizzlies the rest were black bears. They had all wandered out of the parks, pushed out by over population of their limited habitat. It seems we've reached our maximum capacity in Alaska, a lot like some African countries which have more elephants than the land can sustain. It get's back to habitat destruction and five acre lots for everyone.
