the free open market you speak wistfully- It's wide open, you can write your own operating system and license it to millions of customers who are looking for options to MSFT. Start with the LINUX code base and save a couple thousand person years of development. What's stopping you? MSFT is providing a tremendous opportunity with the system activation requirements and smart tags and all. Also, MSFT just might buy AT&T Broadband and refocus its efforts away from the operating system entirely leaving the entire market to new entrants.
