I see a nation where the people are better educated than they were in the first half of the century, when it was an accomplishment to complete grammar school; where the life expectancy and health of the populace is vastly improved; where we are much more productive, innovative, and affluent than we were; where we have made remarkable progress in dealing with our racial and ethnic divisions; where a liberty of action exists for women which was not even contemplated in the early years of the Republic; where we have assumed an honorable role in the affairs of states, in defending and promoting liberty; and where the United States has shown itself to be the leading nation of the modern era. Yes, there are problems, and there is a danger of drifting away from the values and institutions that made us a great nation, but we are nowhere near being a fascist state.........
