You're making the totally erroneous assumption that the "big three" want or need Rambus' IP. My prediction: You'll see a triple digit temperature in Hell before they pay a penny to Rambus Class action lawyers.

No assumption here by me. I'm just asking questions. But are you sure that the RMBS Licenses and Contracts would have no value to anyone else? The pot sweetening doesn't have to come from the "big three." But they might be willing to pay to prevent some non-Fab from buying it in some sheriff's sale which is where it appears headed.

Look at it this way, would you want to risk going through this litigation hell (win or lose all litigation is hell) all for the purpose of (a) killing off RMBS, and (b) avoiding its spurious IP claims, only to have some third party buyer pop up with the intention of pursuing you for the very same royalties? Even if RMBS was buried and rotting away by then, the IP could still be costing you legal fees at the expert rates. Moreover, there's the question of how the 1997 through 2001 patents and patent applications now in RMBS name could effect "elegant" memory/bus designs as yet unknown and undisclosed. So my question. Would MU care if INTC, MSFT, or some other ninny winds up with the RMBS patents?

Yes the Big Three can litigate forever. Lord knows their lawyers will benefit from it. But frankly these three, as well as the non-litigating Fabs, have better things to do with their time and resources than put the finishing touches on the Bus. Particularly if it doesn't finally dispose of their IP claims.
