Sure, some people will upgrade. They always do. But will it be a blockbuster like previous upgrades in this economy when corporations have cut back on spending on things such as security software? XP is not a "must have" or "mission critical".

I think X Box has more potential to make a difference to earnings than XP.

Then the question is whether msft can make up for the losses on the hardware with the software. Most likely they can.

Msft stock though: It's about valuation and it's pretty pricey compared to other software stocks and where it's traded in the past especially considering the growth rate has slowed.
