So American football has no time limit on a game? If the scores are level, they keep on playing until one side scores? Wow. How strange. I didn't realise they had no timeouts, either. So games last 80 minutes, flat, with no stoppages or breaks in play, and they just keep going if the scores are even at that point? How exciting that must be to watch - when will it spread? <edit>is pathetic with its 0-0 ties, penalty kicks, coin tosses, "injury time", "penalty time", 0-0 draws may be dull, or they may be very exciting and closely fought. If you think the mark of a 'good' game is a pile of points, stick with pinball. Or do you think it's more exciting if totally one-sided? So, why not match up a 7-year-old softball team against the Dodgers, should be plenty of runs scored there... Penalty kicks are a necessary evil, awarded (in theory) for fouls that would likely prevent a goal [fouls inside the goal area]. Or they're used as a dramatic, if artificial, climax to a game in knockout competition. They're rarely dull. (I take it no other sport you've heard of has any penalty system?). Outside CONCACAF, the coin is tossed to see which side kicks off first... I'd never heard of any other use until today. Injury time is what it says; in a game which doesn't stop for commercials, or to give the players a 5-minute break, you need to halt play while an injured player is tended. What would you suggest? Oh, and I've never heard of 'penalty time' - AFAIK there's no such thing in football, or any other *world* sport. ----------- The only major sports I can think of where there's no time limit and there 'must' be a winner of any match are tennis and golf - both individual, both untimed games anyway. I can't think of any major team sport, or any timed sport, where there isn't some method of 'resolving' drawn/tied games if necessary. And why do you keep mocking your own teams, BTW? Not that I'm unimpressed to see such a startling lack of hubris...
