Gateway is only backing AMD for about 18 months (since January 2000) and only after a severe shortage of Coppermine processors from Intel. They had AMD CPUs before but dropped them in '99. Judging from their homepage and today's SSB report they are using much less AMD CPUs now then they used to be (this was already pointed out on this threads some months ago). However, I don't think they'll drop AMD completely after their bad experiences in the past with single sourcing. But then again, some people/companies never learn from their mistakes.
