I am aware that the tax laws are written so densely, so obtusely, so self contradictorily, that one can make a case for any damn thing, even that taxes are voluntary.

I have read those books. They are irrelevant. As a practical matter the law is what the courts, backed by guns, say they are.

Also, as a practical matter, the legislature has disenfranchised the taxpayer since no one in his right mind would ever consent to such an abortion.

Exactly, and yet it is touted as being a voluntary tax. If you don't believe me look it up. I believe others on this thread are also aware of that... perhaps Tim or Ish or Charley?

I don't know much about it. I remember reading that every time they tried to get the tax through, it kept getting shot down as unconstitutional. They finally got it through by calling it 'voluntary.' They also weren't counting wages as income, just corporate profits and income from rental property.

Irwin Schiff tried this argument and wound up doing a couple of years in the penitentiary for his trouble.
