There are even Risks in CDs. That is the inflation risk or buying power risk. It is that the principle plus interest at maturity will buy less than the principle at the start of the investment. While at the moment we are in a somewhat slow inflation period, who knows about the future. Most CDs lock you into an interest rate up front. The longer the period of the CD, the higher risk, which is often not offset by the slightly higher interest rates paid on longer period CDs. Nothing is certain. Ask a gold bug.
