Use another analogy to support your argument. It was against the law to put up an alternative phone system in your own neighborhood.

I don't think that's true. In fact, I had a tin can on a string attached to my neighbor's house, and never got into any trouble with the Law.

But this is beside the point, and debating the fine details of the analogy would hardly resolve the question at hand. My point was that the existence of free niche markets does not contradict the absence of a free broad market, in operating systems.

Just as a slave who is allowed to sing in the evenings is no less a slave, a monopolized market whose freedom lies only in its periphery is not a free market.
