Two decades ago, the media and the analysts were crowing about how the money supply drove the economy; Thursday afternoons were huge events on Wall Street. That wasn't entirely right, though. A decade ago, everyone said that our huge trade deficits would kill the economy. That wasn't right, either, and the economy roared along in spite of the continuing trade deficit. Now, it's the Fed Funds rate. And that isn't right, either.

Throughout it all, the media and the analysts were unable to perpetuate the myth, because they were indeed myths. The market won.

The media and the analysts aren't cheating anyone. The person that listens to them and not to the market is cheating himself.

Larry, re: I think that average investors should have the rights to sue these guys for providing very misleading information on their balance sheet and quarterly reports.

What's stopping them from suing?
