I don't kow what it was. I arbitrarily added 830 to Jan '95 [the oldest data point] to keep 'backlog' from zero. That's why it should only be used for month-to-month comparisons. All this is mentioned on the chart.

BTW, AMAT now has a backlog of $2.65B. Near the peak of cycle orders in Oct '97 it had only $1.72B
