Mathemagician:

I trade only in the covered calls. I stay away from the puts. But, if I was into puts, I would tend to sell naked puts on stock that I would like to own or own more of.
But I suppose that the anomalies exist on the put side of the equation as well as on the call side.

re: For example, I see NTAP Aug 12.5 had a volume today of over 21,000.

Probably folks daytrading nickels in volume. High/low of .25/.10.
