Counterpane Internet Security, Inc., developer and leading provider of Managed Security Monitoring (MSM), today announced that Tony Naughtin, founder, director, and former president and CEO of Internap Network Services Corporation (Nasdaq:INAP) has joined Counterpane's board of directors. Naughtin's election complements the board's strength by providing extensive industry expertise in the field of data communications and high-performance networking -- a very valuable contribution to Counterpane's emergence as a leading information security service provider.
"We are delighted to have Tony join our company's board," says Tom Rowley, president and CEO for Counterpane Internet Security, Inc. "His long term experience in Internet communications, the cable industry, and his years of successful performance -- since long before the Internet was in vogue -- gives our management team an added dimension of insight and experience we can rely on. Naughtin has been involved in various aspects of high technology for twenty years. His track record includes notable achievements in the Internet infrastructure, software, and cable television industries. For the past ten years, he has focused on network service and Internet businesses. Before starting Internap in 1996, Tony was vice president for Commercial Network Services at ConnectSoft, Inc. Prior to that, he was director of sales at NorthWestNet, one of the largest original NSFNET regional networks in the country. During his many years in the Internet industry, Tony has developed strategic relationships with organizations such as Akamai, Cisco Systems, Equant Networks, Fidelity Investments, Inktomi, Microsoft, the Nasdaq, Qwest, Sprint, Worldcom/Uunet, and many others. In addition to presently serving on the board of directors of both Counterpane and Internap, Naughtin's advisory board involvements include Aventail.net, Terabeam Corporation, ThruPoint, Inc., and the University of Washington School of Business. Prior to coming to Seattle in the mid-1980s, he spent four years in the legal and business operations groups at Cablevision Systems Corporation. Tony holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Iowa and is a graduate of the Creighton School of Law.
"Counterpane has attracted the very highest quality investors. This is a positive reflection of the strength of Counterpane's business model and management," said Naughtin. "I look forward to making board level contributions to Counterpane as their Managed Security Monitoring becomes a standard for outsourced network security services."
